artist's STATEMENT
My artistic practice centres on the human body, reimagined as a dynamic field for compositional innovation. Working primarily in oil on canvas, my core pursuit is the interplay of free brushwork and the precise arrangement of compositional shapes within the working surface.
My representational works explore the human form in states of vulnerability, introspection, and transformation, often drawing parallels between the human and our inherent animalistic nature through posture and gesture. These explorations delve into shedding layers, whether literal or psychological, to reveal fundamental aspects of the self. My approach blends traditional and contemporary techniques, refined through rigorous personal research and development. I'm particularly drawn to warm, vibrant, and transparent colours, crucial for illuminating forms and guiding the viewer's eye through the composition. These principles also extend to my mosaic work, where I translate the same emphasis on composition and vibrant colour into a distinct, tactile medium.
Using a figurative but contemporary language, my goal is for the viewer to be immersed in the artwork by its inherent light and the force of its shapes. I aim for a sensory and intellectual engagement that transcends mere depiction, seeking to activate the space between the viewer and the depicted form, inviting contemplation on the multifaceted nature of change and our connection to our primal state.
